A lifetime of service one organization at a time
Susan grew up in Tucson after moving here with her family in 1967. Her father, Leonard Banes, was the Executive Director of Family Counseling Agency for over 30 years. He was a pioneer in the field of social work in Tucson, helping to shape the city’s network of agencies and its delivery of services to victims of domestic violence, families and children in crisis, and people with substance abuse and other issues. Following in her father’s footsteps, Susan feels the same calling to the field of social service.
Her skills in mathematics and analysis, together with a passion for people and organizational development, culminated in her earning her MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. After returning to Tucson, her philosophy about the need for an effective, positive financial culture began taking shape. She worked with a wide variety of not-for-profit organizations, including Tucson Centers for Women and Children, La Hacienda Foster Care Resource Center, Desert Hills Center for Youth & Families, and COPE Behavioral Services, Inc., where as the CFO she oversaw the agency’s growth from an annual budget of $3.5 million to $33 million. Susan then served as Vice President of Finance & Administration for Planned Parenthood of Southern Arizona before bringing her leadership skills to Child and Family Resources, Inc., a $17 million agency where she served as the Chief Financial Officer from 2006 until 2011. Through her CFO consulting business, Susan is bringing her specialized and effective approach to more than one organization at a time. Financial issues don’t have to be painful or unpleasant. Susan enjoys having a positive relationship and a personal connection with the people she works with, and with her community. Her current and past consulting clients include: Border Action Network, Emerge!
